I lead a class today for a local community college and I had a couple of folks request that I post the links to a few sight I recommended for picking up inexpensive quality gear.

For army surplus I go with Sportsman’s Guide.

For knives I like to go through Smokey Mountain Knife Works.

Finally for kit I don’t make myself I go through Ben’s Backwoods.

If anyone that was at the course today (or anyone else for that matter) has any questions or request for my blog PLEASE leave a comment and let me know. Also if you attended and have requests for future course topics let me know.

How did the class go?

I think it went pretty well all in all. I wasn't at the top of my form today though. I could have done better. I don't know if I successfully got acroos the poitn I was trying to make. I did a good enough job that folks were asking what and when my next course would be. That's always good!

Sound like you did good if they were asking when the next class was. What did you go over?

The first part of the course was indoors and I covered some of MY theories and philosophies on outdoor recreation and bushcraft. The second part of class we went out to a mock campsite and I demonstrated the ways I put MY philosophies and theories into practice.

Sounds like a good deal. When are you going to do an overnight.

An overnight class? I'm not sure. I've had a lot of requests to do one, they are just hard to schedule. I get limited time witn my family so I try to save my weekends for them.

As an educator I find I have good days and bad days teaching. Sometimes it has to do with me and if I am having and "on" day or not and sometimes it is the students. They more excited they are about learning the more excited I get about teaching . . . totally a fine balance someday and others it works with little effort.

Links are great!
